Polynucleotide

Predominantly derived from salmon DNA*, polynucleotides are designed to stimulate fibroblasts, promote tissue repair and enhance cell turnover.

What Is Polynucleotide Treatment and Why Is Everyone Having It?

With many people seeking more natural solutions for their cosmetic procedures polynucleotide treatment is having a bit of a moment and is becoming increasingly popular in aesthetic clinics.

Polynucleotide treatment uses DNA fragments extracted from salmon to bio-stimulate positive changes in the skin.

Polynucleotide solution has the capability to send specific signals to the skin at a cellular level to bring about the actions we would like it to perform

The Benefits of Polynucleotide Treatment

  • Increases cellular turnover leading to fresher-looking skin

  • Increases production of elastin to reduce skin laxity

  • Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improves the micro-circulation to improve brightness

  • Reduces dark circles under the eyes

  • Keeps skin hydrated

  • Plumps the skin and reduces hollowness under the eyes

How Are Polynucleotides Different to Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers are usually made from a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid and act as 'implants' in the skin to volumise, hydrate and improve skin folds, wrinkles etc. Whilst dermal fillers can be amazing for some skin concerns there are occasions when a dermal filler is not the right choice and polynucleotides are more appropriate.

For example, many people seek tear trough treatment for a tired, hollow under-eye area but they may not be suitable for dermal filler. This may be because the hollowness is not deep enough, or the skin is too thin, they have dark circles or they have some under-eye puffiness.

So for these individuals who are not suitable for tear trough treatment, polynucleotide treatment may be much more appropriate. Another example would be someone who had some skin laxity (loose skin) but does not require volumisation - polynucleotide treatment would help to firm and restore the skin without the addition of unnecessary volume.

Can Polynucleotide Treatment Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Absolutely! In fact, we often recommend it for best results. We often pair polynucleotide treatment with dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, micro needling or Profilo as we find that combination treatments yield the best results.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

For best results, we recommend 2 treatments initially (2-4 weeks apart) with a top-up session around every 9-12 months to maintain the results. Unlike dermal fillers which offer instant results, polynucleotide treatment requires some patience, with best results seen 2-3 months following treatment.

Where Can You Use Polynucleotides?

This innovative new treatment offers a host of possibilities as it can be used on many areas of the body. Many people use polynucleotides to treat the upper, mid, and lower face, including areas such as under the eyes and the cheekbones. Polynucleotides can also be in areas such as:

  • around the eye to give a lid lift

  • neck

  • thighs

  • hair

  • eyebrows

  • beard

  • lips

  • décolletage (upper chest area)

  • inner arms.
